Shared plate

Food: Dosa Team: Cecilia Ambrois + Vasylysa Shchogoleva Design brief: object that provokes interaction/communication between people Material: bamboo, metal During one-week product design workshop we were asked to select one Indian dish and create a new design for serving of this meal. Our ambition was to create an object which will allow people to easily share food between them. Idea for the design came from the appearance of the dish we selected (dosa) and from the material we have been working with (bamboo). Our plate consists out of 3 parts (1-part x 2 bamboo pieces) which can be moved back and forth. By moving them, you can move what’s on them closer to you or your partner

Experience of studies in DIA made one aware and develop connections with the people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds. One may draw a parallel for this event with the Grasshopper software which allows for the designer and final user to have a connection through the opportunity to manipulate and adjust the object before 3d printing it. These connections create a feeling of INTEGRITY which I proposed in this object which can be used as a neckless or a crown. The project development involved a research on the 3d printed jewelries and trial & error in the process of writing a Grasshopper chain to be able to manipulate the sizes of the spheres, where the bigger the sphere the stronger is the connection, represented by a pipe. Later on came the process of the printing itself and here I faced few challenges. Some of the tubes came out too thin and the whole piece was standing on a ‘base’ which was part of the printing process. I decided to keep the base and see it as an addition to my design. This piece was exhibited together with work of other students during the Campus Fest of Hochschule Anhalt in July […]
